Port Jervis – Wake Cup!

By Sharon E. Siegel

Port Jervis – Wake Cup!

Port Jervis recently welcomed and celebrated the Grand Opening of Wake Cup, a unique new downtown café.  Wake Cup’s 45 Front Street eatery hosted a soft launch of their business on May 17, followed by its official Grand Opening on June 16.  These events drew city officials, family and friends, and repeat and new customers that are among those who stop by daily to enjoy all that this new downtown business offers.

The business, as per their website http://Wake-cup.com, is a go-to spot for delicious coffee, bubble tea, and so much more.

“We’re all about good vibes and great brews!” Wake Cup’s motto informs. The café’s walls encourage patrons to “have a cup of positivitea”, “let coffee connect us”, and where “life is better with boba” and “every cup inspires.”

Those who operate Port’s newest downtown eatery, including Jennifer – who helps inspire positive moods daily -- said they chose Port Jervis for its rich history, unique character, and incredible people they have come to know.

One early-on warm experience from the Port Jervis community involved Jennifer’s family buying a bicycle for her son locally.

“Our family was new to bicycling, and the local shops played a pivotal role in introducing us to this wonderful activity. When we purchased our son’s bike from a local store, the staff went above and beyond by customizing the bike to fit his height and teaching us how to adjust it as he grows.  This thoughtful support made a lasting impression on us,” Jennifer said.  “The bike is more than just a bike; it represents the community’s kindness and support.”

In running Wake Cup daily, the owners and staff love being situated in the heart of Port Jervis’ downtown business district.  They said with each visit to downtown they are filled with a sense of relaxation and enchantment.  They are grateful to be able to offer their own space for others to gather, share experiences, and enjoy that same sense of local connection.

Wake Up’s menu includes delicious drinks and baked items to enjoy on site or for takeout.  Their menu consists of hot or cold drinks and flavors, including a wide range of coffees, teas, lattes, expressos, hot chocolate, and their most popular Caramel Macchiato, Matcha Strawberry Milk Tea, and some customer-suggested creations such as a refreshing Honeydew drink.

“Our hot Cappuccino and Flat White are also favorites among our customers, offering a creamy and comforting coffee experience that many enjoy. In addition, our Matcha Mango and Matcha Strawberry Milk Teas feature premium Uji matcha from Japan, and real fruits, creating a refreshing experience that perfectly balances the earthy matcha with the vibrant flavors of mango or strawberry,” Jennifer said.  “Plus, they look visually stunning!”

While enjoying diverse drink and other options, customers may also choose from baked goods offered daily.  These include popular crepe cakes, brownies, muffins, and other choices.  Future selections are also planned, including hot food offers which are on the way.

Wake Cup has a team of seven members on staff, six of whom are Port Jervis residents.  One lives just outside of Port Jervis in the tri-state area, but considers this her hometown and where her parents also own a business.

“Most of our team consists of graduates or current students from Port Jervis High School. They have grown up in this community and have deep ties here, with many coming from families who have lived in the area for generations. They are responsible, charming young individuals who bring energy and enthusiasm to our café,” Jennifer said.

The café’s design, theme, and desired good mood fostering were created by Jennifer whose many prior years of career experiences and contacts in the lifestyle magazine industry allowed her to connect with various other designers and business owners.  She said this exposure helped her develop an eye for design and a passion for creating spaces that make people happy and comfortable.

“I learned that beauty is not just about aesthetics; it encompasses functionality, overall experience, and attention to detail,” Jennifer said. “With this mindset, we designed Wake Cup to offer an inviting atmosphere where people can relax, enjoy delicious drinks, and feel comfortable socializing or working.”

Part of Wake Cup’s interior also includes a sound-proof glass pod at the rear of the in-café seating area.  This business/social spot allows for small group meetings/get-togethers in a modern, convenient location.

“We believe in the potential of this town and are excited to give back to the community that has welcomed us so warmly.  This is truly an amazing town filled with wonderful people,” Jennifer said.  “Our motto, “Be the reason someone smiles today,” reflects our mission, and we find ourselves smiling every day thanks to the encouragement and constructive feedback we receive.”
