A Port Jervis man was transported to the hospital following an accident in which his SUV was struck by a tractor trailer this evening. The tractor trailer was traveling the wrong way on a one-way section of Culvert Street as the SUV was crossing the street to a nearby store.
The accident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. Port Jervis Police Department, Fire Department, and Ambulance Corp were called to the scene. Fire department responders worked to contain and clean up a spill from the damaged SUV to the roadway and nearby catch basin, consisting of oil, antifreeze, and gasoline.
The driver of the SUV, who was alone in the vehicle at the time of the accident, was treated on-scene and transported to the hospital.
The road was re-opened by about 8:30 p.m.
