Beloved 'Addams Family' to visit Port Jervis this weekend!

By Sharon E. Siegel

I had a chance to view a dress rehearsal of the Port Jervis Middle School Drama Club production of The Addams Family young@part this week, and I can tell you that you are in for a real treat if you attend any of their three scheduled performance times this weekend. Opening Night is tonight, January 30!

I only had a chance to speak with a few during a brief break in rehearsal this week, but enjoyed getting some thoughts about the show, cast, and characters:

(Co-Director Janet Prundl: ) Mrs. Prundl said this show was selected for the fun it brings to the cast and audiences. She said last year's show was a bit more serious, so they wanted to choose a lighter, funnier show such Addams Family offers for everyone's enjoyment. Mrs. Prundl said has been great working with this talented group of student performers!

Seth Gil (7th Grade): (Pugsly Addams) Seth has been enjoying all of the funny moments, and especially enjoys the Torture Machine.

Declan Swires (8th Grade): (Gomez Addams) Declan has been in lots of shows, and says singing runs through his family. He has been enjoying all parts of this show and is glad to be part of his family's singing tradition.

Avery Newnam (8th Grade): (Grandma Addams) Avery is also part of a family acting and singing tradition. She has been in other shows, and hopes to continue to be part of PJSD shows in high school next school year. Avery has been enjoying the community and bonding with cast members of Addams Family. She hopes the audiences find it amazing and something to rave about for weeks.

Natalie Halpenny (8th Grade): (Wednesday Addams) Natalie is part of a musical family and has enjoyed being in this and past shows. She is very much enjoying singing and playing the part of Wednesday, whom she described as "at first a very dark girl, but then it changes".

Isabella Valentine (8th Grade): (Morticia Addams) Isabella likes how 'sassy' her character is, "She always wants to be the 'main event' and is always in charge," Isabella said. Isabella hopes that audiences see that Drama Club is a devoted group, and that younger students continue to step out and find the fun that it brings.

You won't want to miss this super fun show, and extra super talented student performers! Running tonight (Friday, January 30 and tomorrow, January 31)! You can order your tickets online at the link directly below, or purchase at the door.

Port Jervis Middle School Addams Family Playbill (online link):

Dear Cast and Crew,

"Full Disclosure" you have made this show so much fun! You have all taken our vision and brought it to life in the most magnificant way. Your personalities shine through in each of your characters and that has made this production greater than we ever imagined.

Over the last two and a half months, we have all learned together what it means "When You're An Addams." Being an Addams means that we put "family first and family last and family by and by." All of you have spent countless hours working hard to become a family and it shows on stage in each and every one of you.

To our 6th graders: Welcome! We are so happy to have you as a part of our drama family. The growth you have shown from November until now is remarkable, especially considering most of you are making your stage debut tonight!! Bravo to you!!

To our 7th graders: The poise, dedication and charisma that you have carried from last year to this has blown us away. You grace the stage like seasoned actors and put in so much time and energy to make your characters the best they could be. We cannot wait for next year!!

To our 8th graders: What can we say, you all rock!!! Your leadership and dedication was invaluable this year. Staging a musical in two and a half months is not for the faint of heart, especially with so many new faces, and you all took on the teaching role and worked right along side us to make this show the best it could be. We will miss you, but can't wait to watch all of you in the future! Always remember that you are a "family by and by!"

Finally, a shoutout to the best stage crew that we have ever had! You are all phenomenal! Backstage has never run so smoothly and it is a testament to all of you!

Love,

Mrs. Prundl & Mrs. Valentine

PS: When you're on your way to River City next year, we hope ya don't got trouble!
