On September 12th, the Rotary Club of Port Jervis dedicated the ”Field of Flags” to our local heroes. The dedication started with the crowd listening to a tape of Red Skeleton explaining the meaning of the Pledge of Alliance, after which we recited the pledge and sang the Star Spangle Banner. The program continued with Lt. Nereus Mogaria, from the Salvation Army giving the blessing which addressed what is a hero, followed by the reading of each hero’s name and their sponsor, closing with a prayer. Each honoree was presented with a medallion commemorating their flag.
This community outreach is a wonderful way to raise funds for Rotary"s community projects, and scholarships by recognizing all the heroes among us. Congratulations to the Rotary members on a successful fundraiser. Banners showing the names honored are pictured below along with members of Rotary that were present, and pictures of the ceremony.
