Having trouble reading the fine print?

By Sherry Mohan-Neves

Port Jervis Free Library

The Port Jervis Free Library has recently acquired several full page-size magnifier sheets for our patrons’ use. They are good for making the print in books, magazines, newspapers and packages more legible. Ask to borrow one at the circulation desk.

Also recommended for easier reading are handheld E-Readers, such as the Amazon Kindle as well as Apple iPads, Amazon Fires, and other tablets, many of them quite affordable (in the $50 range). E-books can also be downloaded and read right on your home computer or laptop that has Internet access.

Patrons can avail themselves of thousands of e-books at the library’s website, https://rcls.overdrive.com/rcls-portjervis/content. The collection includes bestsellers and classics alike. For help downloading books, call the library for assistance (856-7313, ext. 3)

And finally, don’t forget the free Kanopy movie and video service at www.portjervislibrary.kanopy.com. Hundreds of quality movies and documentaries can be accessed at no charge to library cardholders.

This week’s new biographies:

“Chasing History: a Kid in the Newsroom ” by Carl Bernstein. “Engaging and vivid, this memoir of the beginning of Carl Bernstein’s journalistic journey is a welcome reminder of how important the press is and how much fun it used to be.” -- Jon Meacham, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House”
