On Saturday, October 23rd, the Shire of Midland Vale (a part of the Society of Creative Anachronism) hosted its annual championships for Youth Combat, Rattan Fighting, and Archery at New Century Film in Huguenot, NY.
Sir Hasan ibn abd al-Malik designed the rattan tournament to be a spectacle of prowess and entertainment for the populace assembled there that day.
Sir Tanaka designed the Archery tournament to be a challenge for even the most experienced of shooters! With moving targets, charging targets, and more! One would truly have to witness this test of skill to believe it!
This event was well attended by the groups' members and people in the community.
The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an international living history group with the aim of studying and recreating medieval cultures and their histories before the 17th century.
The SCA holds its own events as a non-profit educational organization for the benefit of SCA members and their guests. This is unlike most Renaissance fairs, which are held mainly for-profit to entertain customers and open to the public. Another noticeable differences are SCA events are historically earlier than most Renaissance fairs. Each kingdom in the SCA runs its own schedule of events which are announced on the kingdom webpage and the Shire of Midland Vale is always looking for people who would like to explore this time period.
