Soapbox derby returns!

On a cloudy cool Sunday, June 12th, the Soapbox Derby returned to Port Jervis. This is a gravity-driven race, where children as young as 8 compete to win a spot in the International Race held in Akron, Ohio during July. There are four divisions of competition: Stock, Super Stock, Masters, and the Super Kids division, which is designed for children with special needs.

Due to the predicted weather, the staff made some adjustments reorganizing for the safety of all involved. The first races started around 8 am and continued throughout the day. The number of runs was shortened from four to two per competitor in order to finish before the rain came. As usual, the area was filled with vendors and spectators who cheered on the racers and enjoyed the day.

The racers were able to finish the competition prior to the rain and four champions will be going on to Akron, Ohio.

Congratulations to our 2022 Champions and to our Top Drivers in each division! Your 2022 PJSBD Champs are Jaelyn Csencsits, Rylin Marshall, Justin Hadden, and Matteo Colon!

The 2022 Port Jervis Soap Box Derby was presented by Cornerstone Family Healthcare and generously sponsored by many others including The Mohican Inn, ShopRite, M&T Bank, Bon Secours Community Hospital, the Outdoor Club of Port Jervis, and Technically Creative. The derby is also grateful to the City of Port Jervis for their continued support.
